Last year I found this series of educational research interesting, as I've always had an interest in Native american culture. Having researched and traveled throughout Arizona extensively, I really enjoyed some of the history of the Gila River nations of Arizona and their sophisticated agricultural society.

Anyway , here is the link if any of you have an interest and enjoy history.

Education

My favourite series was the subject, "When the River Ran: 1690 - 1852". If you travel Interstate 10 south from Phoenix to Tucsan, you'll pass over a massive dry wash with a sign labling it "The Gila River". It's been bone dry for decades because of all the dam building far up stream. However, at one time this entire area was once a lush green Sub-tropical forests and savannah , and not the moonscape you see now. I have an interest in wildlife habitat and forest management, and it's sad to think of what was, will never return. Anyway, here's the page in that series:

When the River Ran: 1690-1852

Give yourself a few days or weeks depending on your interest level and reading ability.

Also the 15 year drought out here in the southwest has hurt the river but there is still water in it on the New Mexico side. Yeap there is alot of the Mogollon history and culture in that area.

Couple photo's of the river in New Mexico for you bluepacific.

No they are not mine as i just linked up to Photobucket. But i do know that Gila River Box Canyon area just north of Silver City.

There's the really cool Gila Cliff Dwellings in that area to visit as the Mogollon Culture dates back to approximately 150 A.D. to 1370 before they totally vanished from the southwest.
