Is it true Patton kept elite panzer divisions together well after the war in hopes of taking on the Soviets with them along side US units?

Read that several places. Think I saw it on TV once.

True?

Ive never heard of this, Patton was however no fan of the Russians.

I have however heard accounts by many US, UK and other Western Allied troops that many Germans soldiers who upon being captured/surrendering would make comments like "we should team up against the Russians". I believe there is one such account in Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose.

The Germans still had over a million troops in Austria and Northern Italy in May 1945.

While yes they were on their last legs let's not forget that the Germans inflicted horrendous casaulties on the Russians in Berlin and the Seelow Heights and on us at the Hurtgen Forest and around Aachen. Many German units fought some pretty determined rear guard actions against US forces right up until the day of the surrender.

Indeed they did. American losses were very high in March and April. Tough buggers those Germans, we should never have allowed them to reunite.
