I find that a lot of people are confused about what happened in Virginia during the war and have a lot of misconceptions. Most of those misconceptions can be laid at the door of West Virginia historians who tried to ennoble the forces that created the state. I think it is clear that Lincoln would allow such a favorable seccesion while declaring any other unconsitutional. Kind of hurts his counter county secession argument as ineffective.
