But why even keep the monarchy if they have no power? Why not just get rid of it?
The British monarchy has certain powers, one power is that the King or Queen can dismiss Prime Ministers and call for new elections. The Parliament selects the leader of a majority of members and after presenting himself or herself to the monarch, the monarch appoints him as his or her first minister. British governments are called His or Her Majesties Government. If the Government loses its control of Parliament, the monarch closes Parliament and accepts the resignation of the Government and calls for a new election at which the whole process repeats again. Another power is the monarch commissions all British military officers and is the Commander in Chief of all British military forces. Again these forces are called Royal (Navy, Air Force, Army and Marines). British officers and government officials swear oaths to the Monarch.
In contrast to the USA where Congress commisions all American military officers and you swear all official oaths (even the President) to the US Constitution. The British monarch also signs all acts of Parliament and those of all parliaments of the Commonwealth countries like Canada or Australia and could like the House of Lords reject an act of Parliament. But the Monarch understands this is only a nuclear option not to be used lighly if used at all.

There is no way they would have the guts to do that/ Not only would the politician involved tell them to ---- off, the people would be up in arms and the monarchy would be abolished in a matter of days, if not hours.
Well.. we (the US) dosen't really have "direct" elections..there is this nasty little thing called the Electoral College. Plus the fact that the US is a Republic.
Slight side note here: 97% White Argentina is of about 40-50% Italian lineage yet that whole damn country is as poor as mostly Indian/Mestizo Mexico so the cause must be due to 'Hispanic' culture vs. race/ethnicity. Flip side: Italians in the Anglo-Saxon world as well as Italy today are quite affluent as a group.
Go figure.
Before the Great Depression Argentina was almost as rich as the USA because Britain had financed much of the development of the Beef industry on the Pampas and the meat packing houses that made Buenos Aires a kind of Chicago on the La Plata river. Meat was shipped to Britain and Europe either canned or frozen. Like Chicago rail lines fanned out from Buenos Aires into the interior. Argentina was economically devastated during thr Depression years and its civilian government collapsed, unfortunately an Army officer of Italian hertiage gained power and as an admirer of Mussolini and Franco took his country to Fascism.
His version was called Peronism and the country is still recovering from his rule.

It's not a matter of guts but education. British monarchs are schooled to be a Head of State and not a Head of Government and know their place. It takes a special maturity to be a modern monarch and Elizabeth II was trained for this role from an early age when it became apparent she would be Queen and sovereign after her father George VI. British monarchs since Willian of Orange (William II) have lived with this distinction. If he gets the chance Prince Charles will be just like his mother as would Prince William his young son. One thing the British have over America is their Head of State is schooled from birth to carry out his or her duties to the nation, in the USA any old Tom Dick or Harry can be President and sometimes they don't choose wisely.
LOL, i'm still confused as to who the augsburgs were but that's ok as that isn't the first nor the last time for me being confused

The Augsburg or Habsburg Dinasty were the rulers of Spain from 1500's (I don't quite recall) to 1715.
The Dinasty had a large European empire, and all the silver and gold from America went to their stupid dinastic wars against protestant heathens, against the French, etc, etc.
I'm sure Leo means the Hapsburgs were the rulers..
That's what i was thinking all along however you just never know if Leo did knew of an ''unknown'' dynasty called the Augsburgs
