Hope this is the right place to put this

For those of you who are Route 66 buffs:

Bob Waldmire is an artist who has spent several decades traveling and living on Route 66. I met him once and he was a really warm, kind person, very genuine. He is dying of cancer and has come home to Springfield, IL to be with his family.

Here is a pretty well known Bob story : Bob is a dedicated vegan. The VW van in "Cars" was based on Bob and the '72 VW van he traveled in (it was originally supposed to be called Waldmire instead of Fillmore), but once Bob learned that part of the the contract would be a marketing deal with McDonalds, including marketing his "image" to children to sell happy meals, he said no way. It was a fairly lucrative deal that could have set him, monetarily, for a good long time, as he is also pretty frugal. It just shows what a decent person of character he is, and how he stands by his values. I'm glad I had the chance to meet him, and I, among many, many others, will be very sorry to see him pass on.
