Actually they were part of an algorythm in the programming of the earth as it searched for the ultimate question to life the universe and everything. The answer of course being 42.

Indeed. Even Hollywood knew it.

In the 1955 movie &quot;Land of the Pharaohs&quot; we are told that the workers came because they were &quot;inspired by their faith&quot;. Admittedly, they bow to the more conventional picture by saying later that enthusiasm flagged and the overseer's whip was needed to keep the work going. But obviously the fre labour theory was well enough known to have reached the producers.
