my hobby is collecting and restoring old school stereo gear, (pre 1980).
ive had thousands of receivers amps and speakers over the years and my collection currently has 300 stereo receivers, 4oo speakers, 20 reel to reel decks and other various things. anyone else here have a intrest in vintage stereo gear? maybe i can help?
I still use my JVC receiver and Sony turntable from 1976. Great stuff. The JVC receiver has a 7-band equalizer built in. I hate the new stuff with 'preset' tone settings to choose from. I also have two reel-to-reels, a Sony TC630D (ca. 1970) and a Teac 3440S (about 1976). I also have late-70s Polk S10 speakers with passive radiators.
ur right, jvc stuff from the 70s is really decent, and very much overlooked by most audiophiles, i have the 5550u receiver from the early 70s that i love, i too have a few sony RTR decks, i have 2 tc-558s and a tc-200, i also have a teac 4300 and a a-2340r, i have the polk monitor 10s with a passive 10"radiator, and the peerless tweeters, (early model), i use those with a marantz 2230
It appears to be a collection of mediocre gear. If the object of the exercise is listening to music with as high a level of fidelity as possible I'd argue he's better off selling all that stuff and using the dough on a few pieces of excellent gear.

Read the OP. He's a collector with over 300 receivers, etc. If he listened to your argument "selling all that stuff ...." then he would not be a collector, would he?
Personally, I think it is very cool to see the old Pioneer receivers and RTR's.
