I would like to make a large world globe - say 24in dia, as a project. Any ideas on how to make the actual ball. Any other thoughts would be welcome.

Exercise ball. Partly inflate it, make a mix of plaster of paris and put it in, then finish inflating and rotate the ball for about half an hour until it starts to set. The following day, use a hobby knife to cut open the ball.

I could probably think of a half dozen other ways, like stacked circles of foamcore, etc. but that should work.

The ancients didn't think the wold was flat, they just said it was so they didn't have to make globes...

Another thought is to look at the sections of a soccer ball. Make a bunch of sections and then glue them together.
