My father inlaw had the same problem. After working in the mine's for 100 years he finally retired. He enjoyed spending time with family and travel but once the fun dust settled he found himself rather bored and grumpy. So we suggested he find him a hobby besides drinking..He struggled a little but found joy in baby sitting ( which we happily helped him out with ) and he found an online woodworking site and has been popping out some marvels.. If you want I can leave you the link.. But honestly he loves it and what he has created is pretty good..
Bird watching (also good for women). Getting into birding gets you outside walking, researching and learning about various bird shapes, calls, habitats and habits of different species, meeting new people, and keeping statistics of various species seen in your area. Not expensive - need good pair of binoculars and footwear. Can check out books from the library or do online research.
I have enjoyed a lot of various hobbies over the years but now at 73 I enjoy woodworking with hand tools more than anything, I am too dangerous for anything powered. HOWEVER woodworking is not JUST for Men. Go to YouTube and do a search for April Wilkerson or "See Jane Drill". April is a young WW with a lot of creativity and energy and Jane is an older lady with a lot of knowledge. There are a lot of fantastic resources for WWs on YouTube from amateurs to skilled professionals. One thing to remember about WW is that you do NOT need to be great to enjoy it. Sorta like sex.
Can't believe we have two big lists and nobody mentioned woodworking. Hunting, fishing, hiking and camping are big in my part of the country. I also Googled it and found a list of 217 hobbies for men.
I came late to the party WyoNewk but after about 8 pages I finally made it. Oh BTW one tip for all WWs: Never throw away the screw on bottle caps that are on plastic bottles. They make great spacers for C-Clamp ends etc. But then I NEVER throw anything away because you never know.
