I think some DIY projects come out of a need to get it done. In some cases it is a matter of not having enough money ot pay someone to do it for you. For most of my DYI projects over the years it has been a combo of saving money and saving time.
Today there are so many how to videos out there to learn from. I say if you want to try something new do some research and do it. I'm not saying rewire your house but with a little know how you can change out that light fixture or fix that leaky faucet. Start small and give it a try.
The right tools are often important but the basics can really help.
