I am not a carpenter or woodworker by any means, but I'm attempting a platform for under our king sized bed. It's going to be like a Captain's bed, but without the drawers. The top support platform will be two sheets of plywood cut so they hang over the platform by 6 inches and support the box springs.

The question is my plywood is 1/8 thinner than 3/4 inch (I forget what that size is actually called). Do you think that is sturdy enough to handle the 6 inch overhang with the weight of the bed and my 300 pound butt crawling in and out of it?

Simple enough. Thanks.

"my 300 pound butt crawling" Pedantic imagery abounds...

Yeah, though. Should be fine, but you might want to put a trim on the edge of the plywood to keep splinters from snagging the bed linens.

The platform should put the edge of the mattress about 3 foot high. Being 6'1", it's not much of a crawl, more of a flop. Think of Shamu going after that ball on a rope......

I plan on covering both pieces of wood with fabric with an extra strip along the edge applied beforehand. I will either cut holes in the fabric for the hold-down screws, or slather those spots with glue so when it hardens, I will be able to drill a hole through it without binding the fabric. I plan on having everything measured and hash marked out so it all lines up.

I had a feeling that the plywood would be thick enough to not flex too much with the box spring spreading the load along the edge. I always like a second opinion.

Thanks again.
