Can anyone recommend a product or method to preserve the different colors in this cedar? I have some Minwax polyurethane, and that usually makes things glossy. Should I pick up a different kind of poly?

Some of the cedar is older and endured outdoor weather, and some of it is brand new.

All poly finishes start out glossy, then for satin there are agents added to flatten it. One trick is to let the can sit overnight, then our off half of it into another container, stir the remainder and apply. That will concentrate the flatteners and give you a less glossy finish. Aqua Thane, a more expensive alternative ($50/quart), seems to be the most flat of the satin finish products, but is hard to find, usually only available at specialty woodworking stores.

Thank you for the help. I'll try it out on a sample of wood.

I just realized I said, "preserving color IS cedar", instead of "IN". Oooops.
