Talking on here recently about god 'walking his porpoise out' got me thinking about misheard lyrics. Heard loads of them, lots of them have became famous in advertisements (e.g. TDK tapes: 'Me Ears Are Alight' by Desmond Dekker). My two favourites are A-Ha 'The Living Daylights' Bond theme: Comes the morning and the headlice fade away. But what can top that song from High Noon, Do not pulsate me Oh my darling!

Or Madonna's UK no1 from 1987 La Isla Bonita; 'Young girl with eyes like potatoes' (excuse to use the semicolon there)

Lol, the same can be said for Long, Cool Woman in a Black Dress by the Hollies. But I especially like ...sittin' in a cave with Batman.

A friend of mine heard it correctly, but thought of the wrong word.

In The Rolling Stones' "19th Nervous Breakdown", the lyric is "..your father's still perfecting ways of making sealing wax..."

What my friend heard was "... your father's still perfecting ways of making CEILING wax..."

He had never heard of "sealing wax" used to seal a letter, and just figured that British people had some fashion for shiny ceilings.

I remember when Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' hit, we were completely blown away by it. Even the hip hop guys I played it for loved it and got into the entire album. It was funny how many of us couldn't quite make out the lyrics completely, but I was particularly moved by the line 'I feel stupid and contagious'. It was just a powerful lyric to me.
