Im sewing a quilt made of 5" charm squares, and want to send it out to a long arm quilting machine.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to iron in double sided fusible interfacing between the top and the batting,

and again the backing and the batting so its all in one piece so no parts of the top or back have an
unforgiving piece of fabric that gets folded over accidently on the long arm when its being quilted over.

Not sure if I'm describing it..
a pucker that ends up being pressed down and sewn over like a small 1/8 inch pleat.

So I didn't know if having the whole thing fused together is how its done.. or NO!! don't do that!

Do not use fusible interfacing between the top and the batting. The person doing the long arm quilting will handle the layering properly so there won't be any puckers.

You really should call the long arm quilt shop first and take their advice.

While they have your quilt, you can cut out all your binding. If you haven't made binding before, have them show you and you can have it all ready to bind when you get the quilt home.

Have fun! Post a picture when it is finished if you can.

Thanks for the advice QC!

All this has been running throuh my head as I sew the rows of squares which is only half done.
Hadn't even thought about the binding yet.. Hmmm, this early stage is perfect for me to take
a ride and have a chat with the shop lady (with the longarm) .

This quilt will be the "getting my feet wet quilt"...sewing the square 5" charms.
I am doing it to get ready to make another with a tumbling blocks design.
I ordered a template, though it is larger than I realized, it too can be considered a
"how to" lesson for a future tumbling blocks quilt, though I like smaller size cubes.

I hadn't sewn in a while, and never thought about the long arm before but look forward
to taking the leap. The binding will be a new challenge, since I used to sew a strip along
each side, place the backing on top right sides together, and pin the batting over. Then
sew the whole thing like a pillowcase, tur it inide out and tack it with button thread in a
dozen or so places. Yes, I guess it sounds pretty old school.

The binding will go on last and hand sewn to the back of the quilt. There may be some quilting get togethers at a quilt shop near you; a good way to learn from other quilters and get "ideas". Translation: getting hooked. Are you going to use the quilt as cover up, or show it off on a wall? Either way, have fun getting it finished.

Oh what a fantastic idea. Yes, I do believe I've heard of a quilters group that once a month not far from me.. it never occurred to me to attend. You're wonderful!

This quilt will be for a grandchild when I'm done. After that I will be making a quilt for DH & I using vibrant Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I CAN NOT WAIT!!

Oooooh .... Kaffe Fassett fabrics are just gorgeous ! I did a tote from some of those fabrics, happy colors. Post both of your creations when they're finished. Yes, we can wait... look forward to seeing some pics.
