Do you more or less do the same things OR different things? (This isn't necessarily Sats & Suns...whatever days you have that are pretty free from work.)

Here are the things I usually may do:

- movies
- fairs, arts & crafts events, & festivals of interest
- farmers' markets
- live performing arts: Musicals, dinner/theatres, figure skating shows, pro tennis matches (not really concerts)
- dining out, but I get takeout a whole lot more!
- go to shopping malls, very nearby or as far as 1 - 1.5 hrs away
- browse bookstore
- museums - I wish there were more around here
- amusement park (Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Universal Studios, etc.)
- day in San Diego (2 hrs from me)
- day trip consisting of any of the above
- morning walking - try to at least 2 days/wk
- STAY HOME ALL DAY - at times I do this too & it's nice as well! I can keep myself busy at home for sure. (I don't do this on both days of the weekend)

However, I'd do more weekend getaways if I had the extra money! Also, since I've lived in Southern CA my entire life, I've been running out of places to go. There have been a many of free days when I'm wracking my brain wondering where to go. I don't have a lot of money to spend either.

I usually try to get: (a) outside and (b) away from other people. This isn't due to being a misanthrope, or hating other folks, I just think it's beneficial to spend some quiet and reflective time. I can't prove this, but I think being outside among trees and water is good for people in some fundamental ways. I need a respite from the weekday commutes, work, emails, and responsibilities.

I keep a small cabin cruiser on the local lake that is my ersatz "man cave". I retreat to it once a week and journey to a quiet cove to spend the day (or sometimes overnight) at anchor. It has heating/AC and an onboard generator so I can manage comfort in January and July. I lazily fish from the back deck, listen to audiobooks, read, and cook simple meals on the BBQ or the stove. Sometimes I go below deck and watch some old movies on the DVD player. My wife enjoys the quiet time at home while I'm out. Sometimes it's regenerative to be by yourself for a while.

Other weekends we load up the RV and head for a state park. We usually only do this when we have more than two days though. These are also quiet times to read, and take short trail hikes with the dogs.

Just simple, quiet stuff for us. We don't enjoy crowds or parties.

Depends on the time of year. In winter when it's cold and wet I'll do a few projects around the house, such as painting a room, new flooring or remodeling a bathroom. Outside I do very little, maybe prune a couple of fruit trees and clean up after a wind.

When the weather is better May-September:

Always some yard work to do, working on my bonsai collection, planting annuals, and the vegetable garden
Going to our favorite plant nurseries
Weekend (or longer) trips in the travel trailer
Classic/muscle Car swap meets and shows
Fishing
Smoking trout

BBQs

Nice guys!

pullin2, yes I agree w/ that logic too. There are articles out there that show that solitude outdoors is beneficial to the mind & spirit and especially health benefits of the beach w/ the negative ions, etc. I know being by the beach makes me physically feel better.

Unfortunately, I'm not the type to just drive to the beach ALONE and walk along the shore or something similar. If it was a lot closer, I probably would.

Every day is a holiday, too!!

I usually read a lot of nonfiction and history and the occasional novel, talk to and play with my cats, cook good, healthy meals, watch Turner Classic Movie channel, love watching LIVE PD, make sure to watch CBS SUNDAY MORNING, watch cooking shows, listen to music....and chores if I must.

OP back!

I'm very blessed. For almost 5 yrs now, I don't have to commute to work. Now I don't make as much as I could if I commuted, but not having to drive to work has been a Godsend & I wouldn't want to ever drive again to work!!! I have some flexibility, so about some or 1/2 the time, certain days are almost like a weekend for me too even though I'm not retired.
