I just got done fishing Lake Taneycomo in Branson, MO. I managed to catch 50 trout in 2 months. I got a few more fish on Table Rock Lake, mostly panfish. My next stop is Hot Springs, AR. I hope to catch my first AR fish in a few days.
I have caught fish in around 20 different states. Alaska is probably my favorite place to fish. But it's hard to get to. It's not like you can just drive up there for a long weekend. Florida is my 2nd favorite place to wet a line. New York, Wyoming and Maryland round out my top 5 states to fish.
I spin and fly fish. I use to tie flies but haven't done that in a few years. I get great satisfaction catching a fish with a fly I tied.
My favorite way to catch bass is using topwater lures.
I love to go fishing but I think the fish have heard about social distancing and won't get within 6 ft. of my hook. I'm a bank fisherman on the banks of Kentucky Lake, in western Ky. The problem is I'm sitting in one spot and the fish have 160,000 acres of water to get away from me. But I still enjoy going. I mainly tight line (fishing on the bottom) for catfish. Only caught one this year, but it didn't matter. With the pandemic and my wife's health problems I stayed home quite a bit but she fussed at me to get out for some "me" time.
I did it for a living for 40 years fishing offshore 20 to 120 miles in the gulf out of FL and saw it all go down hill in a matter of years. Back in the 60's before i started fishing offshore it was easy to get 5000lbs of grouper on one place. Now i don't think there is 5000lbs total in the gulf. It's very bad now and gave it up years ago. Only took about 15 years to wipe it out from the 1960's to around 1985 when it really got over fished.
Where I fish, it’s local rivers off bridges along farm roads. It’s boring, catch fish almost always within 15 minutes. Nobody fishes in my area, so I have the area to myself. I get catfish, walleye, suckers, perch, gold eye, northern pike. When I lived in another state it was large and small mouth bass, bluegill, trout. Been fishing for 50 years.
I always dreamed that when I retired, I would spend more time fishing but it has not really turned out like that. some times it feels like I have less free time now
