if it's going to be inside, and i mean, not in the garage, and you can keep everyone respecting it, ie; no drinks on the table, no leaning on it, it is ok to buy one that is press board if you don't expect to keep it forever.

How can you tell if one is pressboard vs. slate? I'm pretty sure this one is slate since it is sooooo heavy.

the pressboard tables are heavy, but they make a different noise when you knock on them with your knuckles

I was from the Philly area. Towns in Philly and its suburbs have bars etc that have arcades supplied by vendors. I purchased a bar room slate billiard table for cheap money and I had them put a new felt on it... Smaller table but great play.......Great rails are also the key and I had both. Probably an accident because I didn't know the rails were very important too and that was 25 years ago. I sold the table 5 years ago for the same I purchased it and now I wish I still had it......

The Willie Mosconi owned a few billiard halls in South Philly and they were the best organized and run billiard halls I ve seen. Brunswick models throughout the place. I counted 56 tables one time....... 3 piece slate, leather pockets and some had an auto ball return...Serious players hung out there....If someone was noticed using a bridge, mgt. came over and watched to see if the cue struck the felt and if it did the player was kinda in trouble and at times if it tore the felt they were fined....... No one could leave and go past Brutus at the door before paying up......hahahahahaha

Brutus and I became friends. I was a weight lifter and he was just, well, a huge person. One time I told him I was gonna kick his _ss.....He looked down from his 6'7" frame and I looked up from my 6'2" body as he laughed at me then I began laughing after I realized he could crush me into the tile floors... hahahahaha

we just bought one from sears, on black friday ( day after thanksgiving) for $350.00 its an ok table, but if your if you want a good one, you need a slate table.it way heavy and very expensive, but worth it if you want a really good table.
the one we got from sears is good, considering the price, but plywood will always have somekind of warp, no matter how much you adjust it.
lol, i went to make a shot on this table, leaned against and 'belly bumped' it, it almost fell off its little feets!! im like ,''sorry dad''..opps
