Sorry dude but there's enough racism out there. No need to bring up why giving or throwing a banana at a black person would be insulting. Just take it from me, it is a HUGE racist action! Thanks for pointing that thread out. It has enough info for me to figure it out. I see that I had heard of that before. I just put it out of my mind and didn't think of it when I heard of the incident. You're right. It's truly disgusting!

While throwing anything on the ice during a game should be cause for being ejected from the arena, throwing him in jail is a bit much. I'm not condoning his actions, but to call it a hate crime is a bit of a stretch.
Disappointing especially considering I'm a non-white hockey fan! While this BS happens in other sports too (like Euro Football, for instance), its inexcusable and should never be tolerated!

Think about this...what signifies a hate crime? An attack on an individual or group based on their race, religion, or sexual orientation. Based on what the idiot did, it would be considered assault and battery by police standards but based on the fact of the content, it is a hate crime.
I also do think that anyone throwing something on the ice should be punished but this was a little more harsh.
