There was a minor league team in Macon, Georgia called the Macon Whoopee.
One of my all-time favorite team names. Their logo was an angry whooping crane
wielding a hockey stick over his head.
The original Cleveland Barons moved to Jacksonville, Florida, then folded after one year.
They were forced out by the arrival of the WHA Crusaders (thought to be "major league")
They in turn were forced out when the California Seals relocated to Cleveland and took the name Barons.
Failing at the gate, after two years they were bought by the owners of the Minnesota North Stars and
merged together to play in Minnesota. Cleveland then went without hockey until 1992 when the IHL,
trying to move into bigger cities, moved the Lumberjacks from Muskegon, Michigan. They were replaced
in 2001 by a new Barons franchise in the AHL (a much more stable league). Due to low attendance, they moved in 2006 and became the Worcester (Mass.) Sharks. The Lake Erie Monsters, AHL Affiliate of the
Colorado Avalanche, replaced them the next year.
Answer on how you sell hockey in Cleveland? Remove the name "Cleveland".
