Kings 4 @ Coyotes 3 (Overtime).

Crazy game. There was only 1 goal scored the first 40 minutes and 36 seconds of the game, which was Oliver Ekman-Larsson for the 'Yotes in the first, and then all hell broke lose the final 19 minutes and 24 seconds of the game. Kings scored 3 straight goals by Doughty, Pearson and Brown to take what I thought was a commanding 2 goal lead into the last 5 minutes of the game, but the 'Yotes weren't quite done as they were able to get 2 goals in the 30 seconds, one by Antoine Vermette, and the tying goal by Larsson, and Kopi ended it with his second of the game 36 seconds into overtime. So, including OT: 1 goal in the first 40 minutes 36 seconds, and 6 goals in the final 19 minutes and 59 seconds which is basically a full period. Don't see many periods with 6 combined goals scored, but that's indeed what that was combined. Louis Domingue got the start and the loss for the 'Yotes who stopped 29 of 33 Kings shots, while Quick was the winner for the Kings stopping 24 of 27 shots. Kopi was the first star along with his game-winner, he also assisted on an earlier goal, Larsson was the second star with his 2 goals, and the 3rd star was Mikkel Boedker for the 'Yotes who tallied 3 assists on the night.

Coyotes were back in action Sunday night in Denver with an 8:08 puck drop against the Avs, and they won 2-1 in overtime, they host Chicago next on Tuesday night at 9:08, while the Kings head to Vancouver for a 10:08 puck drop on Monday.

Good win. I was looking at the schedule and our longest homestand for the rest of the season is 5 games. There's 4 game homestand in there as well as a 3 game one, but looks like our home games are going to be few and far in between down the stretch.

Default 22-11-2

Kings 5 @ Canucks 0.

That's what we call a complete ass kicking! Toffoli got the only goal of the first period, Derek Forbot and Brayden McNabb added goals in the second period, while Toffoli recorded the hat trick with the final 2 goals in the 3rd period. Quick was the winner, he stopped all 27 shots he faced, while Jacob Markstrum was the loser stopping only 33 of 38 shots the Kings pounded him with. Toffoli was the first star with his hat trick, Kopi registered 4 assists on the night and was the 2nd star, while Quick with his 27 save shutout was the 3rd star.

Kings resume tonight when they play in Edmonton with a 9:08 puck drop (and currently hold a 2 goal lead in the 2nd!) while the Canucks are off until Friday when they play host to the Ducks, only one of 2 games on the NHL schedule for New Year's Day. You might have heard of the other one going on that day: Outdoors at Fenway Park between the Bruins & Canadiens. Think it's called the Winter Classic or something.

Another high-scoring win. Kings 5, Oilers 2. Next we go to Calgary, for a New Year's Eve showdown. LA Kings had a contest last month where a random winner gets flown to that game...with tickets, hotel, and a free trip to the mountains as well. Congrats to that winner! I entered but wasn't chosen.

Happy New Year, 7express!

Default 23-11-2

Kings 5 @ Oilers 2.

3 goals in 96 seconds was all the Kings needed in this one. Dwight King, out with injury most of the year got his first goal of the year, 80 seconds later Michael Mersch got his first goal of the year, and 16 seconds later Toffoli put in his 18th of the year. Benoit Pouliot would get the Oilers on the board and Trevor Lewis would get the Kings 4th goal of the period and 5th of the game. In the 3rd Mark Letestu would get the Oilers back to within 2 at 4-2, but Brown would tally the final goal and the final margin about midway through the 3rd. Cam Talbot got the loss he stopped only 11 of 14 shots before he was replaced by Anders Nilsson who allowed the final 2 goals. Quick got the win, stopping 42 of 44 shots.

Quick was the first star, Brown was the second star he tallied 3 points (1 goal & 2 assists), while Dwight King was the 3rd star with 1 goal and 1 assist. Both teams are back in action with 9:08 puck drops: Oilers host the Ducks, Kings stay in Alberta to play the Flames in Calgary in a game available on NHL Network. Spend New Years Eve with the Kings!

Right back at you PDF, Happy and safe New Year's to you as well!

Totally agreed PDF. Remember I said last month if they could head into January in 1st place, chances are pretty good that they'd make the playoffs?? Well, not only are they in first, they are in first by a wider margin then when they went east on December 9. Not only are they going to cruise to the playoffs, I'd be very surprised if they got challenged in the division the rest of the season, because the other 6 teams completely suck.

And just proof of the "completely suck comment." The 2nd team in the Pacific has registered 39 points, meaning 6 of the 7 Pacific teams have 39 points or fewer; in the rest of the NHL there are only 7 total.

Default 24-11-2

Kings 4 @ Flames 1.

Gabi got the Kings on the board about midway through the first period, and the Kings would get the 2 goals of the second period; first with Lucic and the second with Andreoff to go up 3-0 after 2, and wouldn't get threatened much the rest of the way. Mark Giordano would put the Flames on the board 3:35 into the 3rd to get the lead to within 2, but Pearson would end the scoring with a power-play empty net goal. Quick got the win stopping 23 of 24 shots by the Flames, Karri Rammo took the loss stopping 20 of 23 shots by the Kings. Lucic was the first star his only point of the game was the goal that turned out to be the game-winning goal, Michael Ferland forward for the Flames was the 2nd star as he registered 1 assist on the Giordano goal, while Quick was the 3rd star.

Both teams return to the ice Saturday. Flames are in Denver to play the Avs with a 10:08 start, while the Kings return to the Staples Center for what seems like the first time in 2 months as they play the Flyers with a 4:08 puck drop.

Totally agreed! Kings are back big time. Blues have Kings and Stars to worry about and their track record of losing come playoff time. Can't wait again until April....Stanley Cup playoff time....always the best time of year.
