How can a team that has one of the lowest attendance records be worth $600 million if they are committing to stay in that area?
The Islanders were bought for 450 million a few years back with an arena deal that gave them 50 million a year in payments and a 20 million a year cable contract.
Don't see how the Canes could be worth a fraction of their asking price.
Vegas Knights ownership ponied up $500 million without a single ticket sold.
and they have since sold out all of their set aside season tickets, holding about 1K seats per game available for walk ups. Much better attendance that most of the league already. I am sure they did their research prior to purchasing the team.
Carolina has been in the dumps in attendance for many years with no hope in sight.
The Islanders are having their own issues since being purchased. Barclay's arena wants to get out of their agreement to pay 55 mill a year to the team as they are losing lots of money on the deal. Concerts and such are a much better profit generator.
Devils have poor attendance as does Florida and Arizona. I am a hockey fan, but the asking prices for the teams are crazy.
Is Karmanos having financial issues? Hear his kids are suing him because he is selling stock to cover for the Canes' financial losses.

Canes made money last season, not counting the $16 million received from Las Vegas for expansion buy in.
The team is on the verge of being sold to a guy who specializes in fan experience.
A winning season by a team that definitely is headed in the right direction will put fans in the seats.
Karmanos is 74 years old, and I think the ability to control the team destiny and his age are driving him as much as money issues.
Vegas will have a honeymoon, but like a lot of other teams, will find it difficult to fill the seats long term unless they provide home of a winner.
