He's the league-leader in goals this season, he's an exciting hockey player, and I personally would rather watch him than Sidney Crosby. He is also a nominee for this year's MVP. Yet, the Capitals are currently not in the playoff race. If they miss the playoffs, could A.O. still win the Hart trophy?

He's been a cut above the rest for the vast majority of this season and, as Stormcrow73 said, I don't think there's any danger of the Caps not making the playoffs. Even if they didn't I think he should still win it though because he's put in a superb performance this year.
It's quite the log jam for that last playoff spot in the East right now. Caps are gonna need some help to get in. I still think he's got a great shot at it even if they don't make it but....
^ Even if they dont make it this season, they should make another run at it next season, they're already better than they were two years ago. It also seems like attendance for games at the MCI/Verizon center has gone up too.
That goal Ovechkin had against Phoenix in 2006 where he slid on his back is the coolest goal I have ever seen. Can you imagine what it would have been like had it been in a playoff game 7 in overtime?

Every game I've gotten to watch from Verizon this season is totally different from when I used to be able to actually go to games. The fans are a lot more raucous and into the game. Caps games in the lower bowl used to be mostly all suits on cell phones and the real fans were up in the rafters. Looks like there's more excitement for the team now with Ovi. I wish they would have made some trades earlier for more offensive fire power.
