One of hockey's all time greats has passed. Stan Mikita, who played 22 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks has died of Lewy body dementia. He was only 5'9" and 170 pounds but is was all heart.
In '98 I was moved to Aurora, IL. I grew up Wayne's World and was incredibly upset to discover Stan Mikita's Donuts did not exist. Some years later I was working at a video store. A co-worker knew I was a hockey fan and showed me Mikita's rental account. I hoped and prayed that I would cross paths and I would check his videos out for him but it never happened. To my knowledge he never once entered the store while I worked there.
That's my Mikita story...for whatever it's worth.
RIP to a NHL legend. Say hello to Gordie for me, Stan.
It is sad to discover the passing of Stan Mikita. Mikita had been in declining health in recent years. He represented the Chicago Blackhawks and the National Hockey League well. He will be missed.
