I'm really surprised ESPN is bidding because they really don't care for hockey.
They are also desperate for ratings. Same thing with soccer. ESPN's on air "talent" used to mock soccer at every turn and would mock the recaps of World Cup and Euro but were forced to cover because it brought in ratings.

Max Kellerman recently took a negative shot at Hockey. He will adjust quickly if ESPN does indeed get the contract.

I don't know what ESPN still has that guy. He's turning into a washed up talking head. I really don't care for his opinions. If he's the best they can do, then ESPN is heading downward.

I wouldn't count on it. ESPN barely talked about and sometimes openly mocked the game for having little fanfare even when they did have the rights, that won't change.

It is unknown at this point how things will play out with the USA Network regarding a new deal. They do broadcast in more markets then NBC Sports, so that is a positive for the NHL. It is very possible that a deal will be reached with both USA and ESPN.
I know this is a topic down the road for later this year, but what do you think the divisions look like when the Seattle Kraken come into the league next year?? You think they'll keep it as it, or with an even number of 32 break them up into eight, 4 team smaller geographic divisions, with 4 divisions and 16 teams in the East and 4 divisions and 16 teams in the West?
Just looking at it, keeping the divisions as is seems like the easier one. All you would really have to do is move Calgary & Edmonton over to the Central division put Seattle in the Pacific, and you are set with the 4 divisions 8 teams each. NHL isn't as bad as MLB where the teams are located over a wider area so you could theoretically do 4 team divisions, but some teams still get screwed.
The #2 and #3 picks in the 2016 draft have been traded for each other. Jets are receiving a 3rd round pick and are also sending the Jackets Jack Roslovic, a Columbus native.
Laine is an RFA at seasons end.
Probably the best the Jackets could do for a guy becoming a clubhouse cancer. I like that he was traded to Winnipeg and not a sunny destination, in case that was his intent in demanding a trade.

Based on the original plan, the Kraken go to the Pacific and the Coyotes move to the Central. The league will most likely stick to that plan. Only thing that could curtail that is if the "All Canadian Div" becomes permanent which is being pushed by some, but unlikely to happen.

This is what I heard also. Coyotes to the Central.

The "rumor" was that he wanted to play in a bigger market, but according to his teammates and coach PLD never really gave a reason as to why he wanted out. FWIW his father is on the coaching staff for the Jets AHL farm team, who also play in Winnipeg. Will be interesting to see if he commits to them long-term when the time comes or he decides to do the "big-market" thing.
I like the trade for both, the Jackets got an excellent, young scoring winger and the Jets got a lot stronger down the middle. For two guys who were looking for a change, it's about as good as both teams can do.
