In other NHL news, MLB's Wrigley Field will host an outdoor NHL game between the Red Wings and Blackhawks.
I wonder why it will be held at Wrigley field and not Solider field?

Good question. Are the Bears going to play football in Chicago that weekend? Maybe they didn't want to risk that.

Another genius stroke from Gary Bettman....what a moron of the first order.
Um, well, geez... lets think here. Which city is more attractive? Which venue is more attractive? Which city is more populated? And since you think the Hawks arent worthy of holding the event since theyve had bad luck for several years now, then the Wangs are also not worthy, noting their ultra-long losing streaks in the past.

Dont listen to that guy... If MI is the "sports capital of the world" than Chicago, NYC and Boston must be the "sports Heaven of the world".

It's not. Though I would venture to say it's up there with some legends of sports though. And one would think we'd be happy as Wings fans because Chicago isn't that far of a drive.

I wouldn't think so as the game is scheduled for new years day, which will be on a thursday. Not your typical NFL game day.

I didn't check what day 1/1/09 is. The NFL sometimes have Thurs. night football (besides the obvious day of Thanksgiving Day), but usually not that late into the season. Maybe the NHL thought Soldier Field would be too big (a.k.a. too many empty seats), but that Wrigley Field could be sold out?

Soldier Field would be sold out, too, no doubt. Theyre probably holding it at Wrigley since its much more historical, lends a good vibe to the whole game. Soldier Field is newly revamped, quite ugly, not as special. I think the NHL did a good job on picking the locale.
