Nope i gave up on it. Why u ask? Because the Buffalo Sabres and the Rochester Americans were an excellent tag team for NHL/AHL. Only a 1 hour drive away. Lindy Ruff can call the Americans coach in the morning and that night before the game we would have somebody ready to play. Then the Panthers needed an AHL team, so the Americans said that they could stick around. Well, the Americans started getting into some money trouble, and the Americans couldn't have 2 NHL treams. So the Panthers told the Sabres to take a hike. Well guess what! The Rochester Americans are the worst team in the AHL because of the Panthers. So yeah, now the Portland Pirates who have been a crappy team are now an ass kicking team. U see the irony in that? lol The Americans are now screwed.
Not neccessarily a fan, but I do keep up with the Albany River Rats( Carolina's AHL "brother") often.
Hey canes we the Pirates are playing your River Rats on tues. the 10th here in HSBC Arena home of the Sabres. I want tix, can't afford them right now Hope it'll be a good game.
I am from rochester as you can tell by my amerks nickname. I have lost interest in ahl hockey the last few years . I had season tickets from 1975-2006. There are too many teams .
Fortunately the Penguins still draw good crowds, even now in their 10th year. They've been playoff material most years and are heading there again this season.
AHL games aren't televised here in the motherland () but I do try to follow online a bit. I'd love to get out to Hartford some time so I could go to a game.
