Hi all,

I am in love with this design and want to create something similar for my daughter. I can't build the dresser because I'm not that good with carpentry work.

I was thinking of getting a platform bed with an underbed dresser and then make the frame around it. Does that seem practical or should I approach this a different way?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not handy at all so I'd probably call a cabinet company, but how old is your daughter? I'd just be afraid of the height they could fall from with that. Maybe guard rails would mitigate that concern for me.

The article on HGTV indicates that this bed was built with guard rails and a stool, although they weren't shown in the photo. I would certainly include those as well. I just read an article on building the dresser part. I'm still trying to figure that out. Maybe I'll look around for a class to learn how to do it.

Thanks for the response.

Is it very costly to build? If so, I would refrain from putting in such a girly bed. You never know when you might need to sell your house. Such a girly, built in could be a significant impediment to selling your house. If it's not that expensive I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm not sure of the costs, yet. That's what I'm trying to determine. I am thinking of something more "removable." Maybe, something with a loft bed with dresser underneath and a "surround" type thingy around it. I would remove it before listing my house, so it would not be an issue for resale. We're hoping to stay put at least until the kids start high school, though.

Thanks for the comments. All of them are helping me brainstorm through this.

Kura mid-height twin loft bed + a dresser underneath would be the easiest approach IMHO.

IKEA | Children | Children's beds | KURA | Reversible bed

FYI, the blue inserts are white on the other side, and it can be built with either side facing out.

I saw a light colored wall unit/entertainment system used for it ( the TV part was removed and bed inserted ). It was unique and very pretty.

That's an idea. I could probably put small doors on the bottom back part of the frame to make a hidden storage area behind the dresser. Thanks!

Wow! That's gorgeous. My whole house could probably fit into that room (smile). I'm not having much luck finding a stand-alone underbed dresser, so this might work (on a smaller scale ;-) Thanks!

My first thought seeing that picture is that bed is going to be a pain in the rear to make/change sheets. Cute set up though.
