Hey all, I kind of found this forum on accident today but have gotten some good ideas so far. I thought id upload a couple pictures and see if anybody had any ideas of what I can do with, what seems to me, like an awkward dead space. in between my kitchen and living room.. I guess one could say since there are no walls in between that it is a great room but its very long and im really just not sure what to do with it. whether it be furniture or some sort of remodel any ideas would be appreciate to help alleviate my problem

here is a rough layout of what your looking at

looking straight at it coming from the foyer hallway

here is a picture taken from the kitchen
http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/...927_191048.jpg

and here is a picture from the other end (in the living room) facing the kitchen

again any tips or ideas would be appreciated! thanks in advance

why not just turn the table the other direction? t will look like it takes up more space. add a leaf if you have one. a colorful floor rug will really help too. cute dog

haha well the table actually used to be in front of the window where the hutch is(about half hour ago haha) turned the direction you mentioned.. but it just left another dead space in front of the sliding door. the furniture in the picture belongs to my ex who is moving out in about 4 days so perhaps I need to buy a bigger table *shrug* thanks for your thoughts ill try it out and also thanks for the compliment on my dog =)

there is no rule for having to fill every inch with something. I do think a bigger table would help and truly a huge colorful floor rug will do wonders. maybe an oval table. what is on the opposite wall?

once the furniture is out. get some painters tape and tape out a few different sizes of tables to see which will take up the space best. what about a small wall table to use as a desk

Put the table back where it was and make the living room seating arrangement larger, encompassing more of the sliding door area.

I agree, you don't need to fill every square inch. Put an area rug under the table, a few feet larger than the table top, and the space won't feel so empty.

Definitely better to have dead space in front of the sliding glass door (it's a walkway afterall!) than to have random dead space where the table SHOULD be located!

Just rearrange the livingroom furniture to be more inviting. It all looks all crammed together over there.

My suggestion is to move the table to the area - about where the oval is in your drawing. Move the hutch to the other side of the room - about where the dog's dishes are. Add more seating to the space where the table now sits.

food for thought - move the table as others suggested. i think there is too much tile. what if the living room extended to the edge of the sliding doors. then you could rework the living room and have space for a small library or something similar.
