I see one on my local Craigslist and have always liked the look of ceiling beams-I have the perfect header to put it on (dividing 2 rooms) an have an "old world" style going on in my home- so I think it would fit in ok- it would also be about 8 feet overhead- so it's not like you could inspect it closely- let me know what you think-
Faux how?? If you are creating boxed in beams and doing it well, distressing, etc, I think it can look really good. I looked at a house one that had "wood beams"....imagine my surprise when I looked up and could easily notice that they looked "off"...even more surprised when i realized they were stryofoam stained brown to look like wood...
Heck no, they're not cheesey! They look fantastic, are a work of art and they save the natural woods from being destroyed. When done nicely you cannot tell them apart from the real thing.
Do it!
My mom put them in her family room 40 years ago. You really can't tell they're not real wood. They're textured and stained to look like reclaimed wood beams.
