I'm noticing a new trend with the previously lowly and ignored garden shed. Instead of just making a place for the lawn mower and gardent tools, many people are treating sheds like complete rooms seperate from the main house. I've seen offices, playrooms, art studios and hobby rooms made out of sheds or purpose built but with very small "shed-ish" exterior porportions.

What do you think of it? Is it a good idea or bad? How would you treat one with regards to decoration?

Designer sheds have been popular for many years. Personally I love them. Here is my favorite company for garden sheds.

Exterior Gallery :: Gardensheds - Garden Sheds, Storage Sheds and Garden Houses, Architecturally Designed (http://www.gardensheds.com/ext_gallery1.html - broken link)

Unfortunately in our subdivision there are no free-standing buildings allowed other than houses, otherwise I would have a shed from Gardensheds.com.

I don't think they are a new trend, I just think they are getting more attention. Kind of like the outdoor room craze. Even as a child everyone had a veranda or patio that was a center of entertaining and socialization during warmer months and suddenly now "outdoor living spaces" are a trend.

You mean like these?

Little House on the Trailer

This guy is in my town, he's been at this for years now. They are so cute.

I think they're super cool. I wish I had a whole 'nother plot of land out in the woods or something to put one on.

Those are really cute. We hope to build one in the next year or two as a pottery studio for my husband. Our town only allows rather small sheds, but those sites gave some good ideas for making them attractive.
