I have to buy new bar stools and having a problem with style vs comfort. If you have bar stool what do you like or dislike about yours. I have never been comfortale with the ones I have now, Do you prefer swivel or not. I have been shoppping and the ones that are comfortable but not very stylish, I also like the swivel stools. I have been all over the net and there are so many to choose from. If you have ever ordered stool over the net was it easy to put them together. Thanks!

I have some expensive bar stools -they swivel- but for some strange reason there is always a little pile of graphite powder on the floor under them- like something is grating the mechanism somehow-what a mess!-

Are your stools upholstered or not. So far I am finding the upholstered not so stylish and a limited selection of material. Thanks! I am looking for comfort!

I prefer non-swivel myself. I guess I feel a little less secure twirling around when my feet are not flat on the floor. But as I always say, if everybody liked the same thing, the world would be a boring place.

I prefer non-swivel, backless, round barstools. However, I am short with even shorter legs so I think that has something to do with it! The ones I have now (that I love) are from Palacek and they have an upholstered "muffin" top and are super comfy!

I have bar stools in my great room. They are bar height, rather than counter height, so I felt that the swivel kind are better for that circumstance. I seriously doubt my elderly mother could even sit on them if they didn't swivel so she could get in and out easily. For counter-height, I personally would prefer non-swiveling. I have a make-up counter in my master bath and I use a plain wood, what I think is called saddle-style stool there. But I don't sit on that for any length of time. I was rather appalled at how much upholstered bar stools cost when I got mine. I ended up with some from the now-defunct Linens 'n Things that were only $79 each. The are bronze-colored metal with tan upholstered seats and a wood back. I've had them for five years now and they still look new. I just have to tighten the screws once in awhile.

This is big for me! I have four and I go for comfort because it is the most used chair in our house. For meals, for work etc. Bought leather, non swivel with firm back from Bassett. Had four years now and love them! Stylish enough
