Like everyone here has said, there is no single place, but if you can happen to get into either the New York Design Center or the Merchandise Mart (in Chicago), you would have access to pretty much anything. The Pacific Design Center (LA) and the design center in Boston would be great as well.

Of course you'd need a designer to order anything.

I'd say the #1 store where you can buy designer product is Design Within Reach, although I tend to call it Design Beyond Reach because their markup is ridiculous.

You can certainly get just about everything at the Merchandise Mart, but yeah, you need to go with a professional designer as it's not open to the public.

True.... "High class" is that way because you can't just walk into a store and buy it.

High Class to me means high quality, one-of-a-kind handmade furniture and goods, orgional art and very high quality (usually professional) staging.

You get that kind of stuff by commissioning it from the artisans themselves (or becoming an artisan yourself) and locating/acquiring fine antiques (which is an art unto itself).

Everything else is mass-produced for the unwashed masses and is inferior to the discerning palate.

Monkey boy strikes again.

(I wasn't exactly serious BTW, but I can't help it. I'm surrounded by people in my neck of the woods that are like that. They shop at places like this: http://www.anthonysfineart.com/... )
