I like them both. But my bank account liked wooden blinds more.

Shutters. If you have the money to spend on them then that is the way to go. They add more resale value to your home. They are better insulators as well. Besides that they are so much easier to keep clean!

I agree with bta about the bank account. Shutters are classic and blend with either modern or traditional decor. I chose wood blinds, but my final house will have shutters.

We have the wood blinds installed by the previous owners for now. Once my kids are capable of not destroying everything in the house, I want shutters.

So while we are on the topic, how are Shutters for keeping out light.

I currently have those honeycomb blinds in my bedroom (hidden behind lovely fabric panels). I hate the look of those honeycomb things but they are super for keeping out light. I suffer from migraines and require complete darkness. Hubby is a bit of a mole too.

Are shutters about the same affectness for keeping light out as wood blinds? Any other moles or vampires out there that can give me their thoughts on shutters and light?

Our shutters do a good job of blocking light, and I feel our wood shutters do a better job than our wood blinds for blocking light. However, they are not 100% effective. If you require complete darkness you probably want some form of a fabric shade.

Yes, plantation shutters would be my first choice too! They even add a lot of curb appeal when looking at a house from the street.

My vote is for shutters. Wood blinds are great if you cannot afford the shutters, but I really can't even compare them. Shutters are soooo classy, and clean looking.
