Has anyone used 2 different counter tops in their kitchen? I was thinking about using cream quartz on my island and granite on the L shaped part of the kitchen.
The island is going to be espresso cabinets and the L shaped part cabinets will be cream/ivory with a possible glaze but I haven't decided on that yet.
Yes that was more trendy several years ago, especially using different color cabinets for areas or one single eyepiece cabinet. More often just the island would be a different color cabinet. I still see different color counter tops on the island then the rest. Not too often.
I'm not looking to do anything "trendy". I suppose my main concern was about the kitchen having to be a certain size for it to look OK. Or if there had to be an equal amount of each counter top or something.
I think it can be done without seeming too trendy, but I think it is unusual to introduce two kinds of such similar stone slab ones as you have mentioned, sometimes you will see a marble (dough sticks less to it) along with granite in a baking area; which would also be lower if ergonomically correct. Usually you would see something distinctly different from the dominant countertop (I think it wouldn't work if you had two areas of almost equal size slabs yet different countertops) such as a butcher block or other wood countertop or maybe even tile on the island to soften the amount of stone on the rest of kitchen.
I have a compact, slightly raised butcher block area set in the main granite countertop butted up against a raised dishwasher which also has a slab granite wrapping around to a peninsula breakfast bar (an unusual configuration in and of itself but trust me, you wouldn't go back to stooping if you had one) and the slide out rubbish drawer underneath creates a perfect one swipe away cleaning configuration for the cut scraps. I think the area of wood definitely softens the otherwise all granite countertops and is very functional.
I've seen the look done quite well, (I have done it quite well myself, but thats another story) but it was a trend, and its done.
Love it !!!! I'm sure it did!!
