Decided to swap out the wooden balusters for iron balusters - interior staircase.
So, before I ordered parts, I decided to remove one of the wooden spindles to see what I was up against. Well, contrary to everything I read prior, the spindles are screwed in at the base (vs. nailed or glued) so when I remove it I am facing the pointed end of the screw. The head of the screw, apparently, is under the baseboard or tread or whatever you want to call it so now I have to figure out a way to remove the screw before I can drill a hole for the new baluster.
