Hi. I know that it is not the real thing but thinking of putting it in a new house. I have read people say there are certain widths or thickness that are better and companies too. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
Oh don't do it - get hardwood if at all possble. Do inexpensive tile or carpet in the rooms that don't matter as much and put hardwood in your public rooms....then replace the carpet/tile with hardwood as you can afford it. Hardwood, if taken care of, will last the lifetime of the home and add to the value of your home. Laminate may look alright on the sample board, but it will not last and cannot be repaired and does not add to the value of your home - in fact I think it detracts from the value. I would never opt for laminate flooring.
I have a really really really good idea. A logical idea really. Rather then wasting your hard earned money on the most realistic looking laminate floors, why not just buy the real thing?
Wait!!!!! Don't say because the fake junk is cheaper and you are on a budget. If you got your pricing from Home Junkpo or the like then that's your reason. They charge nearly double then any of the small specialty stores. Go check it out. It's true.
If your area has a Floor and Decor store I guarantee you will find the best possible price on real wood. They are true wholesalers of all flooring materials.
And laminate floors generally cause value loss in a home and with the current rate of equity loss in most all areas of the country, why hurry it up by putting inferior undesirable products in it.

OP, this is some sage advice from Cat, I would do the exact same thing.
I really would go for real wood, you may stay in this house for quite awhile and regret the laminate decision.
Put the floor in once, and do it the right way.

Years ago we put Pergo in our teenage son's bedroom; the rest of the house has hardwood floors. I have never regretted it. You could drop a skateboard on the Pergo--and he did--without any damage, while the hardwood definitely shows wear and tear. Today there must be even better laminate hardwood lookalike products out.
