They cut through the roof when there is no access to a burning attic through the ceiling. If there is enough space for the firefighters & their equpment to get to the attic through a proper sized opening (or stairway) that is up to code, it saves valuable time so they can extinguish the fire faster.
I am still not convinced. I will take my chances.
Translation: I'm ignorant and I'll put my life and the life others in jeopardy because I refused to listen to a majority.
