Just checking in to see if there are any Shabby Chic or Romantic Cottage style decor aficionados here. I love that style and am in the middle of a change over, in part of my house, and could use some advice. Once I hear back, I'll post some questions (and possibly pics).
I like the style and its a favorite of my mother's. So when I bought my house I made her room (a spare room in my house) in more of a shabby chic decor for her.
I like thestyle. I just received the current Ethan Allen catalog, "American Color" and certainly much of it looks as though it could fit into this style category.
The other comment that I can't resist making, is that much of this pretty, colorful furniture could also be 40s through 60 furniture, purchased at a thrift shop or other used furniture shop, sanded and painted.
It gave me ideas, but I am buying none of it. Furniture such as this exists. Get your self a 50 year pld cannon ball bed frame, paint it aqua, get a pretty chenille bed spread, buy a windsor chair and paint that.
It's a pretty and timeless look. but Ethan Allen isn't needed in order to achieve it.
Safely I can say that it's a style with staying power, and in the anti bling climate that has swept the country? Yes it's here to stay.

Thanks Sheena. I am very familiar with it and a good portion of my home (bedrooms, family room, kitchen) is in that style. I find is so relaxing for some reason. I abhor modern clean lines etc.
My challenge now is that I'm transitioning my living room area, so it's only 75% ther, and my art looked funny, so I took most down and now need help figuring out what to put where.
PS much of my stuff has been very inexpensive, I just replaced my beautiful (and expensive) hammered and fired copper coffee table for a shabby one that I got on Craigslist for $75 delivered. I love looking for vintage finds at thrift stores.
What I like about it is it's comforting and mostly easy-care. I'm a big fan of washable slipcovers, comfortable funiture, things with the patina that only comes with age.
I cannot like flowery things, or clutter, though, so except for a girly bedroom I don't do that.

I love flowers, pillows and vintage lace so I'm all set! I like clutter only if it's placed there on purpose .
Ok, I have some pictures and I'm hoping people can give me some tips.
1. I have the green matted iris print in the lr, because it went with my last decor and matches my armoir and the color of some of the couch cushions but am thinking maybe it doesn't go.
2. I feel like I should paint the lampos cream and get new shades, thoughts?
3. Does the carpet go? I thought it wouldn't but friends say it's ok?
4. What should I put on the wall behind the chair, round table and couch (I've included a pic of a couple of things I already have)?
5. Any other tips to create the look I'm seeking? I think the very old valances should go and be replaced with sheers or lace sheers. I have honeycomb blinds underneath which I will keep as they save me lots in utilities in the hot and cold weather.
In the post above you'll find some pics and my questions, thanks!
