Hi all,

I'm in the middle of a family room renovation/remodel, and one of the things I need to do is paint the wood trim around my window. Rather than use a brush, I'd like to use spray paint. (I HATE brush marks).

Fortunately, I haven't put up the new drywall around the window, nor have I replaced the flooring underneath. So basically, overspray is of no concern. All I need to do is mask off the glass.

So is there any reason not to do this?

If there isn't, are there any recommended types of spray paint to use? I just want white windows. Nothing fancy.

Thanks in advance.

Generally, you don't get as much paint materials applied when you spray versus brush. My next door neighbor used to have his own painting business, he always brushes window sashes, but his trick is to clean the glass edges with a razor blade while the paint is still wet. He did some windows for me and they look great!

My painter spray paints the doors and trim before we install them in new construction. It seems to work well.

If you use good quality paint and apply 2 coats, you should not have brush marks. I've painted trim many times. I've never had brush marks. I use and recommend Benjamin Moore trim paint.

If you spray paint your trim won't you have to rent or buy a compressor?

OP said "spray paint". I think it would be safe too say (s)he is referring to a "rattle can" paint.

The answer is- do whatever you want; it'll look great from my house!

I wondered about this, as I am getting ready to redo trims and window casings for the whole house.

Since I'll be replacing all the interior doors.... I was planning to use a HVLP (?) sprayer. Setup a paint booth inside garage, and spray paint all the trims outside. As I cut them with miter saw and install them around the house, I'll just touch-up on the joints and nail marks.

Will this be too much work for marginal gain? I thought spraying gives faster and better results than brushing.
