Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to hang a framed piece on an uneven Austin Stone wall? I guess I could grind down the parts of stone that stick out the most and try to make it more even. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this.

What is Austin Stone? Can't you just work a nail into a space between the stones?

I've seen cleat system hangers used for irregular walls- the wall cleat would be secured with screws and spacers between it and the wall to clear any wall irregularities.

The other possibility would be to use inside corner brackets to offset the frame- use the end hole with a "S" hook and "D" rings on the frame.

The nail isn't the problem- it's the irregularity of the walls surface that won't allow the picture to hang straight/vertical. It has to be out away from the wall just enough to clear the uneven surface.

How about having someone paint a nice mural, or picture right on the wall?
Something like these http://images.search.yahoo.com/searc...ed+mural+walls

Why cover the wall with artwork at all? I love the texture and architectural interest created by stone. The designs created by the uneven stones make a statement and are artwork in themselves!

How about a cable wire hung from the ceiling? Museums use a rail above the artwork.
This is just an example of what I mean- Cable Hanging System: Wire Hanging Pictures & Picture Hanging Solutions | AS Hanging Systems
