I'm not opposed to Ikea and I just received the new catalog in the mail. I'll have to take a ride to see the beds in person.

BTW, I did get a response from the owner of the bed. The bed came from a small boutique that was in a mall; the store went out of business a while ago and she can't remember the manufacturer of the bed or the name of the store.

OP, have you considered finding a headboard and having someone make the bedframe? A cabinet shop should be able to do it.

I was thinking of getting the six-drawer portion from an unfinished furniture store and adding a head and footboard. The store can add feet for about $7.00 ea. But, right now someone is at a furniture show looking for me this week. This furniture owner does have someone that could have the bed custom made, but that would be prohibitively expensive.

HACK IT! you can create it with Ikea pieces. go to Ikeahackers.com and you will see what i mean. people have don exactly this type of bed many times.
