I'm looking for ball parks on what it would cost to carpet a 1700 square foot house in a mid range carpet. It has linoleum in the following areas: side hall/laundry area, 2 bathrooms and a mid size kitchen, with a tiny eating nook.
I understand that you don't have exact measurements but can anyone ball park it? The realtor said around $4,000 so I want to know if that's about right. I don't want laminate etc. as I find it cold and my dog can't run on it.
thanks!
Also I will be starting from scratch with the color scheme and want something that will look good with my shabby chic decor and also be decent for resale. Any ideas for color/carpet?
Thanks!

What type of padding and what kind of install are you thinking about? Tack down or glue. What kind of carpeting are you thinking about? I just carpeted two different rooms and they were $$$$$$ apart due to the above variables?
Thanks Nuts, I would say tack down and a mid range regular carpet...this home may be sold in the not too distant future (depending on circumstances) so something that will feel nice and look nice and last for 10 years.
PS I'm trying to do it as inexpensively as possible without using very cheap carpet.
Price can vary depending on area of country, for both material and install. Here in the ATL carpet is relatively cheap because its made right up the road in Dalton- and that's about 90% of all carpet made in USA.
So, needless to say my numbers would do you no good.
I am sure that some folks will get better bargains than this tool lists as the "low" and I know that some folks will not settle for anything less that imported hand loomed wool carpet installed by guys trained in New Zealand that will make the "high" look like an el cheapo estimate but for mainstream choices the tools seems about right for my location...

Having been in the business for 40 years, I can tell you that isn't even close.
can you elaborate? How much would it cost to have mid range carpet installed per sq. yard...I calcualted that the listing was wrong, it's actually 1440 sq. ft. so 160 sq. yards, and I know it has walls, bathrooms and a kitchen that comes off of that but how much would 160 sq. yards come out to ball park?
I doubt it will be wool , it's a very nice manufactured home that I may be selling in a year to 4 years so I'm trying to make it look nice and neutral and serve my needs as inexpensively as possible. Most people buying it down the road will probably want laminate but I don't like it and my dog can't walk on it very well.
First, the wool comment was meant as a joke since wool is astronomical at least here.
My suggestion is to visit some carpet stores or look at Home Depo or Lowes ads in you neighborhood. I had a screen porch that was $11.95 for indoor/outdoor plus almost $8.00 to install because it was an exterior glue down. The den was $36 a yard installed with tack downs but I am in DE. As K'ledge Builder said it impossible for us to guess as every locale has different markups.
