Also known as Formica. There are so many choices out there. I think we've narrowed the color down. The next thing we have to choose is the finish. We like a glossy finish but I've heard it scratches easily. Does anyone have experience with a glossy finish? Would you suggest etching (textured with a hint of gloss) instead?

It should look similar to this:

We have a different Wilsonart laminate (done yrs. ago) - I would think though that glossy would be the way to go, seems like it would be easier to wipe up.

We have matte finish custom Formica. It was installed over 9 years ago and it still looks perfect.
Its very easy to clean, it doesn't scratch easily and many people that have visited my home thought it was natural stone. I don't think it looks like real stone but I love the durability of it.

I'd probably choose the less glossy finish, simply because I prefer it. If you want glossy so your counter mimics granite, then please know your laminate counter will never look like stone, glossy or matter.

But if you adore the glossy look, then you should go for it. Get what you like!

I'd had laminate for years. My last laminate was a slightly textured green, not glossy. I left the house, last year and the counter was then about 12 years old. It held up well until the last couple of years.

I have Wisonart Mesa Twilight on my 9 year old countertops. No problems so far. It has a matte finish. I prefer that over shiny. My friend installed some Wilsonart HD countertops years ago. Hers have a texture to them and a little bit of shine. She's never said they're hard to keep clean.

I prefer a smooth, easy to wipe surface...although the HD look is much better than my cheap looking plastic ones.

The one you've selected looks rich, quality and high end. I think the polished appearance really makes it look more expensive.

OMG!!! You actually use LAMINATE AND NOT GRANITE!!!!

Seriously, wildcard, I think your kitchen looks great, and laminate is practical and durable. I have ceramic tile on my counter tops and while they're durable and you can set hot stuff down on them, they're a pain to clean. They were here when I bought the house, but when I update my kitchen, I'll be going to laminate counter tops and a cushioned flooring rather than ceramic tile, which is hard on my old feet and legs and even harder on glasses/plates that hit it!
