The house we purchased has blue in the living room and hallways. I'm not sure if I like that. It's a fresh coat of paint so DH doesn't want to change it. Keep in mind, we are in the remodeling process. Here's a pic:
Is it gray or is it blue? If gray, then I'd work with it, if possible. Gray is very on trend, for one thing. Put a warm color on the floor, and I think you would like it better.
If the walls definitely read blue to you, then perhaps you could paint an accent wall in a warmer color? Perhaps the fireplace wall?
It is a blue/grey color. The flooring is staying which is a cherry laminate. As for the kitchen, I need to decide on that color as well. If we keep the blue, what color would look good in the kitchen? My cabinets are painted a dark chocolate color. I like yellow but not sure if it will go. I'm trying to tie everything together. Decisions, decisions.
My wife and I both wanted warmer colors as well for the living room. The living room and dining room have cathedral ceilings with no walls between the two rooms. It's very open, so we had to tie it all together. We went for kind of a "rustic" feel in this part of the house because of the furniture and other decor items we have. Both rooms are an orange with a terracotta accent wall.
I do like the color you have in the living room now, and think that turning wall with the fireplace into an accent wall is an excellent suggestion.
It clashes with that floor. I'd go with a taupe color that is somewhat ruddy but still very neutral. Such a color goes with a lot of stuff and is never tiring if carefully selected. It also looks good with white trim. Don't forget to paint that front door to match the woodwork. Just saying.
Good question. You know you could paint the accent wall the same as the kitchen. Ok, you've got cherry colored floors, which read red and warm to me. Your kitchen cabs are dark and warm colored, right? You've got warm tones in your rooms now, so the gray/blue is not out of place, IMO.
You can see on this color sample some colors that work well with a pale blue/gray. I don't know how close this color is to yours, but it illustrates that the "cherry" color looks very nice with a blue/gray.
I think for the kitchen you could go yellow. But be careful what yellow you use. I am not sure I'd put a sunshine yellow in this mix, but I could be wrong. You need color chips--lots of color chips. Try to find chips with a gray undertone; start there. I don't know about yellow for the accent wall in all that blue gray. It is too bad you don't like it, but you could perhaps use a darker gray for the accent wall? If you do, I can personally attest that yellow accents look amazing against a gray background. So, you could tie the yellow kitchen to the accent wall with yellow accents.
I don't know if this will work, but it might be a starting point.
