I really would appreciate some opinions on marmoleum. I am worried about the maintenance and staining, but love the colors. Does anyone have it and, if so, what do you think about it? We were thinking of putting it in our kitchen and bathrooms. Also, on an old thread re: marmoleum someone mentioned the importance of an under layer to prevent noise if you have a floor beneath you. What kind of under layer if any do you recommend? Our floors are concrete if that makes a difference.
Marbleized linoleum- Marmoleum (a trade name) is a true linseed oil linoleum.
Since you're putting this over a concrete slab an underlayment would not be necessary- but having an exceptionally smooth slab might require a lot of work (i.e., grinding and/or filling, floating). Once the flooring is down and allowed to relax it will show every inconsistency in the slab, without the aforementioned work.
Like it? Yes. It definitely has a different "under foot" feel to it. But I don't like it for that kind of expense.
