hi-ive had a couple of electricians come to give me estimates for new hi hats (can lights) in a 2 story foyer. The house has the regular hi hats from 10 years ago in other rooms. One was pushing a style where it looks like the light bulb and trim are one piece. Is that a good way to go? What about it a couple of years when they come out with something new? Am I better off going with the standard 5 inch can with a led bulb that twists in? Im a little confused...It was made by a company called CREE
I used the GU10 in a kitchen remodel- nice and small, and inconspicuous.
But for a two story foyer? I think not. Any recessed fixture for a two story foyer I doubt- unless you were using them with articulating trims to spot-lighting artwork. If you put 90watt halogen (PAR36) spot bulbs in them they may light the room.
From a pure design standpoint I think a hanging fixture is still the way to go.
Consider that regardless of how long the integrated bulb fixtures are supposed to last, odds are one will fail before the others. At that point you probably won't be able to buy a replacement.
I swapped my bulbs and trim for the integrated trim in the kitchen and it looks great IMO. You can get a separate LED bulb, but all the floods I have seen look too techy, where the integrated piece is just smooth surface emitting light.
