I'm getting to the point of picking the floor tile and countertop for my white kitchen.

I'm equally torn between grey/black and beiges.

I figured I'd start a poll to see if that help me narrow it down.

What would you prefer? White and greys or white and beiges?

Meh... I don't like white anything (even ceilings!).

What are you leaning towards and what other colors are in the room?

Every time I think of grey, I get afraid and think I should go with beige. Every time I look at beige, I think it all looks bla.

So far the only colors in the room are white cabinets, big white trim on two windows and two doors, and beige walls. Don't let the beige wall fool you. I think they'll look fine with grey.

I'm choosing a neutral color scheme because I want to change the look often. There will be open shelves. I will have colorful things on the shelves, curtains, a painting and maybe a big rug. My style is transitional. The kitchen will be like a modern twist on country I guess. The first look I do will likely have curtains with an iron gate type geometric pattern.

Personally, I think white cabinets in a kitchen can be beautiful. It just depends on how it flows with the rest of the house. I voted for grays but that too depends on where the kitchen is and what the colors are in the rooms adjacent to the kitchen.

Post pictures, Hopes!

The house is over 100 years old so it's not an open concept. There's a 8' opening at the staircase that separates the kitchen and family room. You can see the kitchen from the family room, but not the part of the kitchen with the cabinets. Basically you can see the walls and one window and the exterior kitchen door from the family room. All common areas in the house are painted beige with wide white trim and light wood flooring. There's an orange/red/eggplant brick wall (old chimney) in the family room. You can't see it from any part of the kitchen, but I was planning to pull some orange-reds into the kitchen via a poppy paining, some pottery on the shelves, etc.

I'll post pictures when I can. Right now I feel like I'm living like a hoarder with cabinets stacked all over the place and my kitchen stored in boxes stacked up high everywhere. There are truly walkways to get around right now. Not something I want people to see until we get it more pulled together. When we have all of the cabinets in (should be this week), it won't be as messy and embarrassing.

I'd go with grey, just because it seems to me to be more versatile, cleaner and lighter.

Grey is my preference too. I just keep chickening out thinking I should go safe.

Everyone's comments and the poll results are making me feel more confident in being daring.

Thanks!

I will go with gray also.
I don't think white and beige match,

cream and beige yes, white and beige, no.

also the gray still gives versatality with other colors, should you deceide to introduce into the kitchen as well.

It sounds to me like you can go with beige walls, because I agree with you that white, rich beige and rich grays and blacks can be a very striking and classy look. Not that hard to pull off either. You said transitional with a bit of country thrown in - you can really use texture rather than color in your walls, floors, counter tops and other finishes, and still stay neutral. I love your idea of adding color through accessories! This is going to end up looking fantastic!
