Thank you for all the responses. I have told her all of your suggestions and as of last night she was going with the matched laminate.

I think that's the better way to go unless she was willing to spend some serious dollars.

Personally, I don't think butcher block belongs in the kitchen. In my state I can't have it in a commercial kitchen. If it is not allowed in a commercial kitchen, I don't allow it in mine.

I like the depth of color in the original butcher block. I wouldn't change it at all.

I have it in mine and have had it for a number of years:



keep it clean and waxed with beeswax and it's all good. Mine is from Ikea, BTW.
