the refridgerator doors should open from the other side. You should be able to reverse the doors, all fridges can do this.

paint the vent covers the same color as the walls, they stick out like a sore thumb.

floor plan would be helpful, obviously.

I wouldn't get an island, because it is hard to have a conversation with someone of they are sitting next to you, as opposed from across from you. I always go for the table and four chairs, I hate the island with the bar stools.

We don't know if this is a one bedroom or a studio?

^Good catch nightcrawler! The fridge has the hinges on the wrong side, that will be hard to deal with if you like or need to cook.

OP - you said "apartment", so I am assuming you are RENTING it. (is that on Bagby?)
If you are renting, you can't paint, reverse the fridge door, build an kitchen island etc. You will need landlord permission first, and that's not going to happen.
