White has been considered not only the safest but also the best choice for ceilings. Color on the ceiling can enhance a room's character, but beware of excess: for primary living areas, keep the ceiling treatment simple so you don't grow tired of it. Ceilings that are lighter than the walls feel higher, while those that are darker feel lower. I have ceiling a shade lighter of the wall color.

My walls are Dusty Trail 414-4 By PPG Pittsburgh Paints®

My ceilings are a greyish white which I would never have chosen. An interior decorator chose them and they look fantastic. I have a cathedral celling throughout the house and the color on the ceiling gives it a nice warm feeling that I love.

Prior to this, when I bought the house, it had stark white ceiling and they looked hideous compared to what I have now. I so wish I could remember the exact color name to show you. It was something like "mountain dove" but that's not it and I don't feel like going outside to the shed to find out.

I like traditional white ceilings; anything else makes me feel claustrophobic.

We just moved into a newer home and the previous owner had the ceilings painted beige....I really don't like the look...It makes the whole house darker & I can't wait to make it flat white!!! As a former Realtor before retirement, I hve told many homeowners the merits of white ceilings...

My walls are SW Reflecting Pool (http://st.houzz.com/simgs/4ec1f9e20e...and-glazes.jpg) and decided to paint the ceilings 2 shades lighter. I like it. The ceiling is vaulted, so no feelings of claustrophobia -- also tons of light.
